English Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the effect of using the advanced Organizers on the grammar comprehension of tenth grade students in Tafila directorate of education through answering the following question: Is there a statistically significant difference between the students' who were taught by using the advanced organizers and those who were taught by the conventional method of teaching? The population of the study consisted of (1773) male and female tenth graders in Tafila secondary schools of the first semester in the academic year 2006-2007.

Those students form (66) sections and their ages range from 15 to 16 years.

The sample of the study consisted of (300) students who form two groups; experimental and conventional.

The experimental group was taught using the advanced organizer method while the control group was taught using the conventional method.

The sample was chosen by using cluster sample.

To achieve the purpose of the study a grammar comprehension test was used before and after the treatment to measure the equivalence of the two groups in their levels of grammar comprehension.

T-test was used to find out if there was any statistically significant difference in the students' achievement on the pre- and post test.

The findings of the study were as follows: There was a statistically significant difference between the students who were taught by using the advanced organizers and those who were taught by the conventional method of teaching in favor of the advanced organizers.

Based on these findings, the researcher recommended that curriculum designers, educators and teachers should use the advanced organizers as a method of teaching to make students' learning meaningful.
