Abstract EN

This study aims to present an overview and a commentary on Joseph Vendryes' book: Language The title of this comprehensive language book by itself indicates its components of both; descriptive and historical linguistics To that end, Phonetics Syntax, Morphology, and Lexicon are displayed, along with language functions, as well as its development, in an educational, scientific methodology, based on an environmental, and social manifestation incorporated in a simplified language, a consistent, flexible method, and a simplified format.

The study argues thatVendryes' views on certain issues were similar to those of some Arabic Language ancient scholars such as: Abdelqaher Al Jurjani, Ibn Jenni, Ibn Fares, and others Consequently, the study emphasizes those areas of similarity by presenting the views of those scholars which have been disregarded by Vendryes' who stopped short of mentioning references to these authors in his book.
