The research aims to identify the mental abilities of the students of the Faculty of Basic Education and their relation to the patterns of their thinking and their achievement in the teaching methods of history.

To achieve the objectives of the research, the researcher relied on the descriptive approach and a number of procedures that included the identification of the research society, which was limited to the third grade students Department of History, Faculty of Basic Education / Mustansiriya University - morning study for the academic year 2014-2015, 125).

The current research sample included (75) students from the history department who studied the teaching methods of history, were chosen by the method of intent.

In order to achieve the objectives of the research, the researcher adopted three tools, the first in mental capacity (90) divided between four abilities: (linguistic, mathematical, spatial, suggestive), researcher researcher Sdhhh presentation to a group of experts and specialists in education and psychology, (Karma, 2006), after researcher Sadaqah Al-Dhaheri and Al-Dhaheri produced his presentation on a group of experts and specialists in education and psychology, and an achievement test consisting of (50) paragraphs in three types of questions, distributed between the levels The Six Bloom Rating (Knowledge, Understanding, Applying S, analysis, composition, and evaluation).

The validity and stability of the variables were investigated.

The test was applied retrospectively, after the completion of the mental capacity test.

The researcher used a number of statistical methods to analyze the search results such as Pearson correlation coefficient to extract the stability of observation card, weighted mean coefficient and percentage weight.

After completing the presentation of the results of the research and interpretation, the researcher concluded: The students of the Department of History at the Faculty of Basic Education have an average level of mental abilities, and the difference between them in favor of males, and they tend to use the integrated thinking style more than the left and right style, As well as the poor level of educational achievement in the teaching methods of history, which requires continuous pursuit to address this level to a better level than it is now, and the difference between them for the benefit of females, and in the light of the results of the research and conclusions recommended the researcher a number of recommendations and proposals.
