English Abstract

The melting behavior of poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) was studied by using the Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) and the Polarized Optical Microscope (POM) combined with hot stage.

At low crystallization temperature the first and the second melting endotherm peaks correspond to the subsidiary lamellae within the spherulite structure, while the upper melting peak corresponds to the dominant lamellae.

At high crystallization temperature only the dominant lamellae are formed according to the optical studies.

The PET resists the thermal degradation when was cured below 330°C and above that temperature a significant loss of sample mass was observed
