English Abstract

The chemical characterization of Jordanian phosphate, slime and water were performed for samples collected from Al-Hisa mines in Jordan during the different production processes.

The present work aimed at determining the concentration and distribution of trace metals, major anions and cations in different particle size fractions for phosphate, slime, influent and effluent waters of washing process.

The trace metals analytical were determined by using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) after optimization of the solid sample digestion in acid mixture of nitric acid, hydrochloric acid and hydrofluoric acid using microwave.

Additionally, major anions (fluoride, chloride, bromide, nitrate and Sulfate) were determined using Ion Chromatography (IC).

The sieve analysis showed the largest portion of (125 – 250) μm.

particle size fraction for phosphate and slime.

Among the analyzed trace metals iron and zinc that showed the highest concentration levels in phosphate and slime samples, whereas, arsenic, cupper and manganese showed the lowest concentration.

Similarly, the highest level of zinc was found in influent and effluent water while nickel was of the lowest level.

There were a significant increase in pH, electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved solid (TDS), total suspended solid (TSS), and total solid (TS) values for effluent water rather than in influent water.

In major cations the highest levels of magnesium and calcium were found in phosphate, slime, influent and effluent water while potassium was of the lowest level.
