Abstract EN

The study aims to identify the role of the computer centers in Iraqi universities in the application of information technologies in university libraries and the impact on the development of technical and information services and on the overall research process offered by university libraries represented by their central libraries, and the extent of the relationship between these two institutions (Computer Centers and university libraries) and the mechanisms of cooperation and coordination between them.

The study followed an analytical approach based on the information collected from a target sample consisting of five computer centers and five central libraries, which fall within the formations of five Iraqi universities located in the capital Baghdad (Baghdad, Mustansiriya, Technology, The Two Rivers and Iraqi) The most important results of this study were: 1.

There are weaknesses in the coordination and cooperation processes between the computer centers and central libraries in Iraqi universities in the field of information technology applications.

There is a kind of cooperation between the Computer Center and the central university library in providing maintenance of computers, networking only.

The most important recommendations of the study were: 1.

Provide the university libraries staff with the necessary competencies in the field of information technology applications andand add staff that have prior experience in dealing with these applications.

Organize workshop to strengthen the link between university libraries and computer centers.

Workshops should aim to identify the needs of those libraries for computerization and to contribute to the creation of complimentarily between the needs of libraries and applications provided by computer centers.
