Ensuring environmental sustainability in the light of the millennium development goals in Algeria

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are eight goals agreed upon by the UN member states by 2015.

These goals was based on the UN Millennium Declaration signed in September 2000, which obliges UN member states to combat poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy and discrimination against woman.

There are objectives and indicators to measure progress towards these goals.

These goals have given great importance to the environment and sustainable development by incorporating the seventh objective, which includes ensuring environmental sustainability, with four goals to protect the environment from the severe deterioration.

In order to achieve development objectives, including ensuring environmental sustainability, Algeria has made great efforts to protect the environment and ensure environmental sustainability by creating the legal framework and setting up many bodies concerned with environmental issues and allocating large financial packages in various development programs to achieve the Seventh Development Goal
