The study aimed at discovering the high elementary school students’ trends towards the Quranic Recitation and Intonation from the perspective of the students and their teachers.
The study also aimed at highlighting ways to improve these trends.
A tool was developed and tested to measure students’ trends.
It was implemented on (360) students and (55) teachers from (22) schools in the capital city of Amman.
An open-ended question was given to (10) experts in Islamic Education Curricula on ways to improve students’ trends towards the Quranic Recitation.
The study found the students and teachers showed poor tendency towards the Quranic Recitation, with (58%) and (43%) respectively.
The study also found no significant differences that could be attributed to sex among teachers, while there were differences between male and female students, in favor of the latter.
Further, the study suggested a list of measures to improve the students’ trends towards the Qur'anic Recitation within three axes; (the teacher, curricula and teaching methods and extra-curricular activities).
In light of these results, the study recommended increased attention to the preparation and training of teachers of Islamic education legally and educationally, and the use of interesting methods of teaching that employ various modern technologies.
