Abstract EN

The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of the strategy of guided imagination on the development of visual thinking skills among the eighth grade students in the subject of science in Yemeni schools.

The study sample consisted of 62 female students in the eighth grade at Balqis Educational Complex in Ibb governorate during the academic year 2015 - 2016.

The sample was randomly divided into two groups: the experimental group consisted of (n=32) students taught using the strategy of guided imagination and the control group consisted of (n=30) students taught by the traditional method.

To achieve the objective of the study, the researcher designed a teaching material, in accordance with the strategy of guided imagination, and a test, for measuring the visual thinking skills, which consisted of 38 items associated to five skills: visual discrimination, relationship perception, information interpretation, information analysis and meaning deduction.

The collected data were analyzed using the statistical program (SPSS).

Results of the study showed that there was a statistically significant difference, at a mean level (a ≥ 0.05), between the intermediate scores of the experimental and control groups in the post- application of the visual thinking skills and its sub-fields.

The study comes out with a set of recommendations and suggestions that may be beneficial to those concerned with curricula and teaching methods.
