A first detection of sodium saccharin Carried out for 50 samples of local ice cream made collected randomly from different regions in the province of Basra, the results indicated presence of 21 samples with positive result, which constitute 42% of the total samples that have been tested, Then samples were positive outcome analysis in the examination of the first detection using Chromatography Technique HPLC to estimate the amount of sodium saccharin.

The results showed that the average concentration of sodium saccharin samples of the area of Al- Geneina, AL-A bulla , Al-Jumhuria , Al -Gazaaer , Al -Bradai, Al- Ashar, Abe-Alkaseeb ,Al- Hussein inspired , Al-Hade and Al-karma, amounted 2.5484 ,3.9584 , 1.9104 , 4.1489 ,3.1318 , 1.4377 , 2.4233 ,2.9905 , 4.5484 and 3.1801 g / kg for each of them respectively, and that all values of acquired exceed the limit set by the Codex Alimentarius Commission.
