This article examines the coverage of some media outlets in a number of Western European countries on military coup attempt and the state of emergency in Turkey.

Furthermore, it is compared with the coverage of the terrorist attacks and state of emergency in France.

It further examines the role of Islamophobia and Orientalism in the coverage of the military coup attempt in Turkey.

Finally this article also analyzes the framing and narrative of the European politicians about the anti-coup demonstrations of people with Turkish origin in European countries and its link to the notion of democracy as a reality in the Western democratic culture.
