Abstract EN

This study examines the question of reconciliation between the two oppositional binaries represented by the British colonizer (West) and the Indian colonized (East).

It is based on the exhaustive analysis of A Passage to India on the light of Edward Said‘s maintenance close link of struggle between the colonizers and the colonized on one hand, and on JanMohamed Abdul-Rahman's Manichean allegory which epitomizes the conflict between the putative superiority of the European and the supposed inferiority of the native on the other hand.

E.M.

Forster's A Passage to India is a faithful reflection of this cultural conflict that draws a line of demarcation between English civilization on one hand, and the Indian one on the other hand.

This novel is the symbolic text that attempts to bridge the gap between the Manichean opposition of the colonizer and the colonized.
