Hand amputations represent a major functional and aesthetic harm hindering the social and professional life of the patient.
To remedy this, a few specialized centers have introduced the concept of hand transplantation.
Through a review of the literature, we will describe the principles of this surgery, its indications and its limits.
This work led us to conclude that hand transplantation remains a technique that is not generalized because of its overall cost and the high risk to the patient.
The result of this technique is unpredictable and other alternatives exist like prostheses

Les amputations de la main représentent un préjudice fonctionnel et esthétique majeur entravant la vie sociale et professionnelle du patient.
Pour y remédier, quelques centres spécialisés ont introduit le concept de la transplantation de la main.
A travers une revue de la littérature, nous décrirons les principes de cette chirurgie, ses indications ainsi que ses limites.
Ce travail nous a permis de conclure que la transplantation de la main reste une technique qui n’est pas généralisée du fait de son coût global et du risque élevé sur le patient.
Les résultats de cette technique sont imprévisibles et il existe d’autres alternatives comme les prothèses.
