Abstract EN

This study sheds light on Salafism in Lebanon, which initially took on an advocacy character.

However, the regional circumstances, from the US occupation of Iraq in 2003 to the outbreak of the revolution in Syria in 2011 and the turbulent Lebanese reality, pushed the Salafist ideology towards militancy.

Salafist Jihadist and the Lebanese State clashed more than once, but the title was one: the preservation of the identity and rights of the Sunnis in Lebanon.

Despite its deepening, the Lebanese State still treats the phenomenon as a purely security affair, and does not involve religious institutions and civil society in treating this matter; hence, reducing the prospects of the phenomenon demise or its decline in the foreseeable future.
