Abstract EN

Many questions have arisen in relation to the paintings of Al-Wasiti, which illustrate the scenes in the wellknown manuscript of Maqamat Al-Hariri, written in 1237AD.

In fact, the critical thing about these paintings is that in some new research, scholars such as Amal Porter (2004), Alain George (2011) and David J.

Roxburgh (2013), have interpreted the geographical, national and religious elements mentioned in the scripts according to their cultural backgrounds; as a consequence, the interpretations were sometimes biased.

In addition, one of the most important scripts, the Omani Maqama, which contains four complete illustrations by Al-Wasiti, has not received adequate artistic, social or political investigation.

Through an artistic and historical descriptive analysis, this work aims to study the artistic aspects of Al- Wasiti’s illustrations in Omani Maqama to show to what extent artistic content in the script reflects the reality of Omani life during that period.
