A content analysis of news coverage of the Danish cartoons affairs in Al-Ghad Jordanian daily newspapers

This study aims to explore the coverage of Al-Ghad Jordanian daily newspaper of the Danish cartoons affairs that was published in February 1ST 2006.

The researchers used the content analysis method as a tool to conduct the study through monitoring and analysing the news stories which were published by Al-Ghad daily newspaper in the period from 1-10 February 2006.

The study reveals that Al-Ghad newspaper published (99) news stories regarding the Danish cartoons using all journalistic patterns.

Its coverage depended on international sources (global news agencies, global news networks), newspapers sources (reporters and correspondents in Jordan and in other countries), national sources (the Jordanian news agency), and lastly on Arabic and Islamic sources (Arab news agencies).

The study reveals that news coverage of Al-Ghad newspaper for the Danish cartoons affairs did not contribute to the mobilization of the Jordanian audience against the publication of the Danish cartoons; while the news, opinions and comments written by the newspaper’s editors were balanced and called for dialogue in order to solve the problems
