Abstract EN

This research investigates the methodological principles for distinguishing proper names and technical terms in Islamic Studies in Languages other than Arabic with reference to English as an example.

This is known as Arabic transliteration system.

Therefore, the research discusses its definition, relationship to translation and Arabicizing.

It also shows its importance, benefits, the domains in which and occasions on which it is needed and used, and some notes which should be taken in account when this methodology is applied.

The research shows that this method is mostly used in the field of Islamic Studies.

This is because this field contains more technical terms than other fields.

In addition to the fact, that these terms may lose their meanings by literal translations.

The main fields in which this system can be used are: libraries, Academic works and Internet pages.

The main occasions on which this system is used are: technical terms, proper names, and book titles and their publishing information.

The research also insists on keeping the use of such system to minimum, and not to go beyond the real need for it.
