Abstract EN
During the Second World War Algeria experienced very difficult circumstances generated, essentially, by the lack of food due to many years of dryness and waves of locust as well as the drawbacks of the disastrous colonialist food supplies administration.
In this regard, the issue of famine drew the attention of both communist and nationalist newspapers despite their few numbers and the fact that they were under a rigorous control.
Communist press stressed the lack of food during 1944 and 1945 and held accountable the colonialist authority for the hunger revolution.
On the opposite side, this thesis was denied by the nationalist press, which considered the insurrection of the 8th of May 1945 as a colonialist plot and a revolution that went to failure.

Durant la seconde guerre mondiale l’Algérie a traversé une situation rude, marquée par un manque de vivres, due à la succession des années de disette, et le passage de vagues d’acridiens, cette situation était aussi le fait du manque de ravitaillement, et sa mauvaise distribution par l’autorité coloniale.
La presse communiste et la presse nationaliste ont longuement décrit la famine qui a sévit l’Algérie en 1944-1945.
Suite aux évènements sanglants du mai 1945 la presse communiste a colporté le slogan : «il n’y a pas de révolte arabe, mais un complot fasciste », en conséquence elle a accusé l’autorité coloniale d’avoir provoqué une révolte de faim.
Cette thèse a été réfutée par la presse nationaliste, qui a considéré l’insurrection du mai 1945 comme étant un complot colonialiste, et un soulèvement manqué.
