Abstract EN

This paper present a case study on the importance of information security in libraries and information centers, addresses the threats to information security, and the risks that make libraries and information centers more vulnerable to these threats.

The study is composed of two parts: The first includes the definition and importance of information security, the basic principles of information security and its fields, the specialization of information security, the risks that the Internet poses for information security, classification of cybercrimes, ways and means of maintaining information security, and finally educating students about information security and ethics.

The second part deals with the information security policies in libraries and information centers and applying these to the libraries of the University of Zakho in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq as a case study.

The research emphasizes the need for an information security policy document in libraries and information centers, followed by a set of procedures and instructions.

Absence of the commitment not to commit cybercrimes will become an ethical issue that may or may not oblige many to respect policies.

The research also presents a set of recommendations to identify the adequacy of these policies to achieve information security in libraries and information centers.
