Abstract EN

Thyroid disordcrs have a multifactorial etiology, and the right combination of gcnctic, cnvironmcntal, and endogenous factors arc required for the initiation of the discasc proccss.

This study was carricd out to evaluate some hormonal and gcnctic parameters of some Iraqi patients from Al Zuaaffaranya city with thyroid disordcrs in order to find if the exposurc to pollutant have a rôle in the increascmcnt of this disordcrs, this study consistcd of two parts The first part was conductcd on 25 paticnts21( 84%) of them fcmalcs and 4(16%) were malcs suftered from thyroid disordcrs who have been referred to the Department of Radiation, Nuclear Mcdicinc Hospital in Baghdad and 25 hcalthy control during the period from March to july2015.

The age of patients and hcalthy individuals ranged between (13-60) years.

The results showed that the most fréquent thyroid disordcrs among patients were thyroid non-toxic goiter 15:25 (60% )and hyperthyroidism 5:25 (20%) while hypothyroidism4:25 (16%) and thyroid cancer 1:25 (4%) in less fréquent.

Thyroid hormones thyroxin (T4), triiodothyroninc (T3), and thyroid stimulating hormonc( TSH) levels were determincd in ail subjccts by enzyme linkcd fluorescent assay (ELFA).

T3, T4 and TSH level significantly high p<(0.01), ( 1.83±0.144nmol/L, 181.2±54.245 nmol/L, 0.38±0.12 p IU/ml respectivcly) In Thyroid toxic goitcr(TG), T4, T3 level significantly high p<0.01(78 ±11.57,1.37±0.06)in hypothyroidism group.

The second part of the study include the using of HPRT gcnc mutation assay as uscful biomarkers for the détection of organism's exposurc to ionizing radiation The results of the average mutation frequcncy for HPRT (Mf-HPRT) gcnc revealcd a signifieant incrcasc (p<0.05) in patients with thyroid disordcrs comparing with the control group This indicate a possible exposurc to pollutant which may bc radiation pollution .
