Abstract EN

The study aims at underlining the technique of repetition in the poetry of Abdullah Ibn Abdel-Aziz Ibn Idrees, a linguistic phenomenon which has greatly interested critics due to the role it plays in poem construction.

A noticeable technique in the poetry of Ibn Idrees, repetition is clearly associated with his psychological and emotional status.

As a result of the way of life he led, this technique was developed by the poet as one of his key means of expression.

The study aims at categorizing the types of repetition in the poetry of Ibn Idrees by highlighting the repetition of particles, words, structures in both verbal and nominal sentences, vocative structure, exclusive mode structure, wish-making structure, interrogative structure, half lines and complete lines.

It also points out to what extent these types of repetition can create poetic implications that may affect the recipient drawing his or her attention to taking part in poem construction and sharing life details with the poet.

As a technical device, repetition by Ibn Idrees is implemented at two different dimensions, vertically and horizontally, in an aesthetic framework that enhances the poem organization providing coherence and integrity.

The two dimensions sometimes overlap to enhance the unity of the whole text.

The study is concluded by highlighting the motives of repetition in the poetry of Ibn Idrees such as amusement and admiration, pride and self-conceit, urging and optimism, heartbreak and sorrow, stressing power and greatness, elaboration and allusion.
