The present article undertakes the roots of religious freedom in the American society.

The primary focus of the paper is to demonstrate that the liberty of conscience enjoyed by the Americans is the result of the struggle of religious radicals who made sacrifices in order to separate the church and government .Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson were among the first Americans who called and worked for religious freedom in the New World
