Abstract EN

This paper investigates the mythological and religious view of the scape- goat, and tries to employ this view to analyze a Pre-lslamic poem which was written by Albaa' Ibn Arqam al-Alashkari.

This poem is mentioned in Al- A 'smaiyat under number 55.

The poem is based on a narrative which states that Nu'man bin Munthir, the king of Heira, released a ram in a year of drought to find out whether anybody dared to slaughter it.

The ram passed in the residence area of Albaa', so he slaughtered, cooked and ate it.

His friends reviled him for that sin and so he decided to apologize to the King.

The king accepted his apology and forgave him.

This paper claims that the scapegoat in Albaa's poem is associated with a religious and mythological vision that Nu'man bin Munthir and his family believed in.
