Abstract EN

English for specific purposes (E.S.P) has emerged as a significant branch in ELT landscape.

It is mostly concerned with the learners’ needs for a specific field of academics or occupation.

“The emphasis in the definition of ESP has been on how ESP teaching develops procedures appropriate for learners whose main purpose is learning English for a purpose other than just learning the language system” (Davoodifard and Eslami Rasekh, 2005) Thus ESP focal point is that English is not taught as a subject separated from the students’ real world instead it is integrated into a subject matter area important to the learners.

So tailoring courses according to students’ needs should be the basic principle for all ESP courses.

The results of our study revealed that efforts and attempts are made so as to improve the way English is taught for biology students at Bejaia University however many things remain to be done so as to answer students’ needs and interest.
