Abstract EN

Africa is a continent of diversity, in terms of its cultures and ethnic groups.

Since a long time, Africa suffers from long term internal conflicts during the post Cold War era.

The nature of these conflicts varies between a conflict between two or more ethnic groups, or an ethnic group against the central authority.

The latter is that type of conflict happening in the Sahel, exactly in the Republic of Mali.

Recently, Mali suffers from the Touareg’s rebellion in the north against the central government.

Therefore, this paper examines if there is a correlation between security and multiculturalism.

It also spots light on 2012 events in Mali and the spread of terrorist groups in the Sahel before the intervention of France
