Abstract EN
The world is witnessing high population growth rates, rapid urbanization and increasing production and consumption levels.
These conditions resulted in the generation of vast amounts of solid wastes.
Egypt suffers from high waste generation rates and inefficient waste collection and disposal.
The accumulation of uncollected solid wastes on the streets results in adverse effects on the human health, the environment and the economy. The paper concludes that the conditions of solid waste management in Egypt justify calling this problem a crisis.
Finally, this paper presents a model to assess the effect of demographic and economic factors on solid waste generation.
