Abstract EN
Old planning approaches and methods applied in Khartoum Metropolitan (KM), did not give foundation for the understanding of new development trends.
Current development trends in KM are so diversified, and many-sided, that it was not possible to get one consolidated picture for the philosophical basis, in applied urban planning concepts.
Recent developments of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Sudan provided considerable challenges and opportunities to improve the management of Urban Planning Process (UP?) and make better use of resources.
This new technology was applied in the delivery of services and for many people the Internet has become the first point of access to services and information.
The paper represented an investigation into the applicable urban planning process in Sudan, and review of the literature focusing on the UPP in KM in response to the evolution of ICT, in order to clarify the current situation and to develop proposals for the UPP in the future.
