Abstract EN

The role of media has recently increased in that its importance has become more apparent and been emphasized in both the way of life and growing awareness of population.

This was basically due to the continuing spread and development of the audio-visual communication means as a result of the technological revolution.

As a matter of fact, the audible, visual and readable media means are considered one of the most important tools that form the public view and in turn affect its trends and behavior especially in the tourism field, not only because they are cultural methods aiming at the transfer of information, news and facts to people but also because they are major methods for improving the cultural and stylistic standard.

Besides, there is an interaction between media and tourism based on the areas of promotion, development and tourism quality.

Moreover, the need for media means is considered essential for tourism in peace time, and accordingly it would increase during crises.

Thus, the present research discussed the tourist crisis that encountered Egypt after the 25* January revolution which was represented by the decrease of incoming tourists by 33.2 % in 2011 compared to 2010.

Therefore, the importance of promoting domestic tourism has evolved as a tool for recovering the tourism.

activity inside the country and achieving the tourism destination's sustainability.

Through its theoretical framework, it focuses on the importance of both domestic tourism as a basis for international tourism, and the role of me'dia for its promotion.

As for the practical part, it aims at evaluating the role of some main Egyptian media means in promoting domestic tourism in Egypt during the period that follows the 25* January revolution.

A number of interviews have been conducted with some officials and authorities in the Tourism Ministry, the Egyptian Tourism Authority and some major tourism companies to find out their attitudes towards the role of Egyptian media in promoting domestic tourism and the obstacles that they encounter.

By analyzing and interpreting all collected data, the research draws some conclusions, as well as, recommendations in order to maintain the role of the Egyptian media in promoting domestic tourism in Egypt,
