Abstract EN

Menhit was linked with the great goddesses of Esna as well as with the creative force of Ancient Egypt’srituals.

In spite of the fact that her name means the slayer or the killer—due to her incarnation in the form of a lioness, she wasportrayed as a wife and a mother as reference to her liaison with Nit and Nebtu in Esna.

This goddess was given an array of epithets which symbolize power and divinity.

She was also connected with the other goddesses of Upper Egypt.Menhit was regularly depicted in the form of a woman, a lioness, lioness-headed woman holding the waj and the 'ankh symbols.

Being the daughter of Ra\ her head was usually surmounted with the sun disc along with the coiled copra.

This is in addition to the red crown (of Lower Egypt) and double red and white crown (of Upper and Lower Egypt).

Khnum was Menhit’s formal husband, while child Hika was her son, particularly at Esna Temple
