Abstract EN

A Simple, sensitive, economical and rapid spectrophotometric method for the determination of fluorometholone in its pharmaceutical formulations, using phenylhydrazine Chlorhydrate as reagent was developed .The method is based on the formation coloured complex between Flurometholone (FLU) and phenylhydrazine Chlorhydrate (PHH), The yellow colored complex was obtained, after heating at 77 ± 0.1 C° for 8 min in mixture of 1- propanol:ethanol (80:20) v/v as a solvent.

The prepared complex shows a maximum at 386nm with molar apsorbtivity of 2.5713 ×104 l/mol/cm .

The Beer’s law was obeyed in the concentration range 0.5-25μg/mL, RSD% not exceeded 2.87% with correlation coefficient of (0.9998).

Recoveries were between 99.21 - 100.52 %.

The proposed method has been successfully applied for the determination of Fluorometholone in pure and pharmaceuticals dosage; the results demonstrated that the procedure was accurate and precise.

No interference was observed for common pharmaceutical preparations.
