Abstract EN

The study was done about the effect of vitamin E on the metabolism of phospholipids in functionally different tissues (liver, kidney and hippocampus) of 24 months aged male rats.

First experimental group administered vitamin E orally for 7 days and the second control group received corn oil orally for 7 days.

The change under the influence of vitamin E level of phosphatidylcholine (PC) and phosphatidylinositl (PI) showed de novo synthesis of these products.

Meanwhile the use of vitamin E showed enhancement in the synthesis of phosphatidylethanolamine (PEA) and phosphatidylserine (PS) in the liver and kidneys and reduced their synthesis in the hippocampus, without altering their mass.

In conclusion, feeding rats with Vitamin E cause a significant decrease of the accumulation of diacylglycerol (DAG) in all studied tissues of 24 months aged male rats.

DAG accumulation is possibly one determinant factor for aging processes like adiposity, insulin resistance, diabetes, and oncogenesis.
