antibodies (AKA) in patients diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA).

This study was conducted on 50 controls and 242 patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis, patients were divided into two groups, the first group consisted of 60 patients diagnosed with the disease since less than 12 months, the second group of 182 patients diagnosed with the disease for more than 12 months.

The sensitivity and specificity for RF-IgM was respectively 86.7% and 80%, and respectively 60% and 100 % for AKA in the first group.

The sensitivity and specificity for RF-IgM was respectively 69.8% and 80%, and 79.7% and 100% for AKA in the second group .

This confirms that these two tests are complementary for the early detection of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA).

This is specifically important because of the large number of studies showing that the main irreversible damage to the joint takes place during the first two years, therefore, early therapeutic intervention will result in a greater control over the disease process and less damage to the joint (1,2).

Early detection of this disease is important, not only for alarming purposes but also for therapeutic reasons (3, 4).
