Abstract EN
This study demonstrates that tourism provides a major means of economic values for the conservation and maintenance of heritage sites particularly those designated as World Heritage Sites, Policymakers are often reluctant to implement user fees or increase existing fees, if any, above the existing level although several studies have shown that the introduction of new fees, or higher fees at areas that previously had lower fees, did not lead to overall reductions in use.
Further, due to the lack of understanding of use values, another important source of income is rarely explored.
The type of research presented in this paper is crucially based on the fact that the future of conservation and preservation of such sites will depend on self-financing.
The primary objective of this study is to assess the use value of one of the priceless World Heritage Sites to its visitors namely, Memphis and its necropolis in Egypt, The Contingent Valuation Method is utilized to estimate visitors’ value for the site assessed by Willingness-to-Pay (WTP
