Abstract EN

This study is going to highlight the contribution of traditional religious institutions, particularly al-Haram (Sanctuary), in reducing the impact of violence and its prevalence in Moroccan society.

Al-Haram institution was given a great religious significance in the history of Morocco because it played an important role in resolving many social and political conflicts such as the reduction of violence by providing asylum and protection to the rebels, the oppressed and oppressors alike.

In fact, al-Haram was a holy space that must not be violated or desacralized and hence everyone must venerate al-Haram including al-Makhzen (the State).

So, in addition to approaching the concept of al-Haram, my paper sheds light on its historical evolution and its role in maintaining social and political stability in modern and contemporary Morocco.
