The present investigation was designed to study the effect of the environmental pollutant 1,1,1, trichloroethane (TCE) on the testes of rats and the mechanism of germinal epithelial layers cell death.
Two doses of this pollutant (0.4 and 2 g/kg B.W) were orally administrated to the males Wistar rats for 4 weeks.
The biochemical tests have shown a significant increase (p≤0.05) in tissue malondialdehyde (MDA) level and significant decrease (p≤0.05) in serum testosterone level after exposure to TCE.
The histological study showed atrophy of the germinal epithelium and appearance of the multinucleated cells in the higher dose.
From these findings it can be concluded that this pollutant is toxic and cause infertility due to decline in the level of testosterone hormone and oxidative stress production.
