Infectious diseases account for high proportion of health problems in the developing countries.

Many pharmaceutical companies show interest in plant-derived drugs mainly due to the current widespread believe that 'Green Medicine' is safe and more dependable than the costly synthetic drugs which may have adverse side effects.

About 42% of 25 top selling drugs marketed worldwide are either directly obtained from natural sources or entities derived from plant products.

The date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) is a monocotyledonous woody perennial fruit species belonging to the Arecaceae family.

The beneficial health and nutritional values of date palm for human and animal consumption have been claimed for centuries.

In the current study, we screened the antioxidant and antibacterial activity of different parts of P.

dactylifera using aqueous, ethanol extracts.

Extracts of the fruit, seeds and bark were studied for their antibacterial effect against the Gram positive strains Bacillus subtilus, Staphylococcus aureus; and Sarcina lutea, Gram negative bacteria Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumoniae, pathogenic yeast Candida albicans and fungi Aspergillus niger.

Our findings represented that seeds of date is a potential source for antimicrobial compounds.

Also, it is clear that the antioxidant activities were various from extract to another.

Moreover, the mechanisms of the phytochemicals and the antioxidant properties of the extracts are not fully understood, therefore, more investigations are recommended.
