Abstract EN

Three electromagnetic models of the lightning return stroke current have been considered in this paper.

In these models the lighting channel representations are based on the use of an artificial medium.

The presented results are obtained using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain method in three dimensions (3D-FDTD, based on Taflove formulation to solve Maxwell’s equations.

This allows obtaining the lightning return stroke current and the electromagnetic fields waveforms.

These results are compared to others taken from specialized literature notably measured data.

Against this comparison, it appears that the proposed approach, yields to reasonably accurate waveforms of close electromagnetic fields and spatiotemporal lightning return stroke current.
