Abstract EN

Since the conquest of Algeria in July 1830, colonial France has begun a severe and savage pursuit of its objectives (colonization).

To arrive at this, it has made various laws and decrees to get hold of the Algerian land.

Among the governmental texts are the decrees of September 21st 1830, the decrees of July 22nd 1834, the decrees published in 1844, 1846 and the law of June 16th 1851 During the second empire (1852-1870), colonial France proceeded to a new law affecting the land.

It is the law of the senatus consulte of April 22nd 1863, the theme of our article in which I give an overview of this law and its content .

Finally, I speak about the various positions towards this law such as the position of the members of the French parliament, the military, the colonists of Algeria, the jurists, the natives and the French press, the metropolitan and the regional press.
