English Abstract
This research work tackles the impossibility and failure of realizing respectively the American dream in John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men and the Arab dream in Ghassan Kanafani's Men in the Sun.
The work consists of three chapters and a conclusion.
The first chapter introduces the authors, John Steinbeck and Ghassan Kanafani, their literary achievements and their ideas about the human endeavors to fulfill a dream.
It tries to summarize their ideas in this regard and show the close ties between the two novels: Of Mice and Men and Men in the Sun in the light of their contemporary economic, social, political, and human realities.
The second chapter discusses the main relevant ideas to the theme of the impossibility of the American Dream in Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men.
It analyzes the main characters and the problems that bother their minds and lives throughout the novel with an eye on the main topic.
Chapter three examines the main themes and the failure of the Arab dream as displayed in Kanafani's Men in the Sun.
It shows the sufferings of the Palestinian workers who suffer as refugees and seek to migrate to a rich Arab country, but their journey ends with tragic consequences.
The conclusion tries to sum up and evaluate the results of the arguments that happened in the previous chapters, and makes an attempt to build a comparative study taking the similarities and differences into consideration concerning the main theme in both novels.
The study will follow a textual and critical method with a comparative outlook taking the two novels as main sources and other critical works produced on the two novels as secondary sources.
