The study aimed to identify the role of colleges of education at Shagrah University in accomplishing social responsibility, identifying difficulties that limit that achievement, and presenting suggestions activating this role.

We used descriptive questionnaire survey instrument to determine the role of colleges of education at Shagrah University in accomplishing social responsibility and the barriers that limit such role.

The instrument was distributed to 100 faculty members of college’s of education.

Some of the most important findings revealed by the study include the following: there is general agreement that the academic programs offered by colleges of education at Shagrah University satisfy social responsibility in teacher preparation with weighted average of the means of 3.96 (out of 5) which is indicative of agreement.

While the concept that programs and activities geared to community services in colleges of education suffer numerous weaknesses scored a weighted average of the means of 2.76.

The weighted average of the means scored 4.42 concurring with the statement “there are many difficulties that limit the achievement of goals for social responsibility within the administrative, cultural, regulatory and financing domains of colleges of education at Shagrah University”.

The study provided recommendations to activate the role of the colleges of education at Shagrah University in achieving social responsibility foremost of which is embedding social responsibility and its concepts in educational programs, perform follow up tracking studies to see if their graduates can teach their own students effectively, the application of variety of assessment methods that can detect various dimensions of maturity of student teachers, the expansion of programs and activities geared to serve the community, the establishment of community service centers in the colleges of education and establishing strategic plans reflections for social responsibility for colleges of education at University.
