Abstract EN

This study aimed to investigate the effect of teaching reading by using WebQuests strategy on developing reading comprehension skills among first secondary grade students in Jordan.

The sample consisted of (52) female students of first secondary grade in Irbid.

They were selected on purpose from one school only and were distributed randomly into two groups: The first group was the experimental group made up of (27) students and they were taught by using WebQuests strategy, while the second group was the control group made up of (25) students and they were taught in a traditional way.

To achieve the aim of the study, the researcher designed study tools that consisted in a list of reading comprehension skills, a teacher’s guide, and a test to measure reading comprehension skills.

The study results revealed the effectiveness of using WebQuests strategy in teaching reading for the development of reading comprehension skills.

There was a significant difference at α= (0.05) between the experimental group and the control group.

The difference was in favor of the experimental group which was taught via WebQuests strategy, as opposed to the control group that was taught in a traditional way.
