Abstract EN

This study aimed to investigate the sustainable elements of the interior design of the Arabic Islamic house in Jordan.

The study relied on the descriptive and the historical approaches in order to identify the sustainable elements of the interior design of the Arabic Islamic house in Jordan.

The study adopted the observation as an instrument to gather data from the study sample that was chosen intentionally in consistent with the study goals.

The study revealed a number of results among them achieving the elements of sustainability in the interior design for the traditional houses in addition to concluding the elements of sustainable interior design for the Arabic Islamic houses especially in Jordan which are using the local and available materials, considering the cultural and social dimensions in house design, relying highly on the natural energy resources, and using materials with high durability.

The process of analyzing the house sample concluded achieving many of sustainable elements such as using available local materials in construction and coating, using high durable materials, keeping the thermal content through using thick walls, the effective climate orientation by responding of house design to sun motion and the directions of dominant wind, implementing effective and natural solution in lightening and ventilation, and using some traditional elements such as fountain, arches, and windows that resemble mashrabiya.

A number of recommendations were provided in the light of the results.
