Abstract EN

This research deals with opium and its importance in Laos according to the Hmong mountain tribes which become famous in its planting and its production since they were displaced to Laos in the mid-nineteenth century.

After the occurrence of Laos under French protection in 1893, they encouraged the Hmong to exploit more land for the production of opium, which relied on its resources to achieve their administrative and military budget expenses.

This research also deals to the personalities which are responsible for the production and Marketing the opium and selling it , and the trade relations which have been associated with the famous drug smuggling gangs to the other neighboring countries of Laos , as well as the role that the United States has through Central Intelligence Agents , which provided logistical support to Hmong ,to practice their profession in the cultivation of opium and its commerce In exchange for military support of the Hmong to the United States during its war against Vietnam in 1965, and the negative repercussions that resulted from the spread of drugs in South Vietnam , Especially among the US soldiers, this matter leads the US President Richard Nixon to end the Laos vital role in the opium trade and marketed it to other countries in late 1971.
