Abstract EN

In his essay, the Tunisian Professor Hamid Lashhab –a researcher in philosophical thought- tackles the German philosopher Schopenhauer’s critique of Kant’s philosophical system, especially his opposition to Kant’s theory on the possibility of comprehending a thing in itself outside the realm of empiricism.

The writer points out that the famous philosophical works in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries resembled a court where reason was the main defendant.

Providing proof of reason’s capabilities and its epistemological limits was the main concern of the “judges” of philosophical thought from Francis Bacon to Descartes, Spinoza, John Locke, and David Hume.

This trial was crowned by a series of Kant’s works on this matter, and the most important was his book The Critique of Pure Reason which is of our concern here
