Abstract EN
In this article, the author intends to describe the symbolism of sacrifice and its strange, unexpected relationship with love and faith.
The paper is rooted in allusions contained within Kierkegaardian theological texts, and specifically as Kierkegaard's theology relates to the individual, the theory of eternal return, faith in God and the relation of these to human love.
In Kierkegaard's writings, it is these theological concepts, which allow humans to find the divine within themselves, by offering the human a self-sacrifice in an effort to achieve the absolute.
The author also refers to some of the religious figures who Kierkegaard writes about, including the Biblical Prophet Job, and the Patriarch Abraham, described as the “Knight of Faith”.
Kierkegaard had focused on these two prophets because of their self-sacrifice in expressing their faith in God.
Finally, the author attempts to draw parallels between the sacrifices of these two biblical prophets and Kierkegaard's own tribulations through his relationship to Regine Olsen
