Abstract EN

Nowadays, Arab architectural identity is facing a huge shifting toward modernity; an aspect that made it moves away from its cultural & significant characteristics.

This study discusses the identity situation in the Arab world, and clarifies the reasons behind this change toward western architecture.

The study aims to re-define the architectural identity in the Arab world if any or to clarify the current situation reached according to the conscious & unconscious shifting toward western architecture.

The study re-reads the previous works related to identity, and then develops a conceptual framework to examine different samples of Arab architectural works.

The Data of these samples are collected and analyzed then discussed to come up with a conclusion.

Based on these four steps a definition of architectural identity is concluded and the current architectural characteristics in the Arab world are determined.
