Abstract EN

This study discusses the Basra pilgrimage route, which starts from the city of Basra, Southern Iraq.

This route crosses many break stations on the way to the Holy City of Mecca.

This route was almost neglected by the first period of Abbasid rulers as they cared more for another route, the Kufa route, which begins at Jufa city, 170 km south of Baghdad.

Throughout this study we focus on two important aspects.

The first is the historical aspect, illustrating the factors that affected the stability of the route, whether political or economic factors.

Also we collected most of the sources and references that describe this route and its stations, and the distances between each station and the next.

The second aspect, which distinguishes this study, is that it practically proves, using archaeological evidence and measuring distance, that the famous station of al-Shaji, which is part of the Basra pilgrimage route, is located in the al- Shaqaya area, north-west to the state of Kuwait.
