Abstract EN
Apo-AI, apo-B and apo-Al I apo-B ratio had been studied in thyrotoxic subjects with and without ischemic heart disease.
Serum apo-Al and apo-B ware significantly reduced in all thyrotoxic groups compared to control group.
Moreover, serum apo-B was signiricantly decreased in ischemic cardiac thyrotoxic group compared to non ischemic thyrotoxic patients.
Apo-Al / apo-B ratio was significantly increased in all thyrotoxic groups in comparison to control group.
Yet this ratio was significantly higher in ischemic cardiac thyrotoxic subject than those without evidence of ischemic heart disease.
There was positive correlation between apo-Al /apo-B ratio and each of serum T3 and T4 in thyrotoxic patients with cardiac ischemia.
However, such correlations were non significant in non ischemic thyrotoxic patients.
The decreased apo-Al and apo-B levels in hyperthyroidism was attributed to the decreased concentration of proteins, enhanced degradation of IIDL-cholesterol, increased fractional catabolic rate and the reduced biological half-life of LDL.
The measurement of apo-Al I apo-B ratio may therefore be more helpful in predicting coronary heart disease in thyrotoxic patients.
