Abstract EN

Our study included two groups : First group comprised twenty healthy volunteers as control.

Second group comprised thirty nine hypertensive patients (essential hypertension), this group was divided into three sub- groups : - Thirteen patients were treated with Nifedipine (10 mg capsule 3 times per day for 2-4 weeks).

- Thirteen patients were treated with propranolol (40 mg tablet 3 times per day for 2-4 weeks).

- Thirteen patients were treated with Captopril (25 mg tablet 2 imes per day for 2-4 weeks).

Our results showed a non significant elevation of ANP in cases of hypertension compared to the control group and a highly significant elevation of the level of ANP in cases of hypertension after treatment in relation to the control group.

Also there was highly significant elevation in the level of ANP in cases of hypertension after treatment in relation to same cases before treatment.

Our results also showed that ANP levels in patients treated with Nifedipine was found to be significantly higher than before treatment and when compared to the control group.

Also ANP levels in hypertension patients after treatment with propranolol was found to be significantly higher than before treatment and in comparison to the control group.

In patients treated with captopril ANP levels showed insignificant increase compared to hypertensive patients before treatment and to the control group, from the above date it seems that some hypotensive drugs are acting through the control of ANP release and its subsequent haemodynamic effects.
