Abstract EN

This study wan concerned with the pathogenesis of sexual dysfunction in male patients with chronic renal failure.

Scrum level of gonadotropins and testosterone was measured by radio immunassay in 20 male patients, subdivided into two groups, "A &B" 10 patients each.

Group "A" included uraemic patients who had never been subjected to hemodialysis therapy.

Group "B" included those on regular hemodialysis therapy for more than one year.

A third group "C" of 10 apparently healthy individuals were included as well in this research as a control group.

By history taking all our patients were complaining of sexual dysfunction.

It was found that scrum L11 and FSH were significantly increased in both uraemic groups (A & B) in comparison to the control group "C However, there was no significant between the uraemic groups "A &D" Serum testosterone was significantly low in the uraemic groups "A & B" compared to the control group "C" yet there was no significant difference between the uraemic groups themselves.

Dialysis did not improve this dysfunction.

We found also that there was no correlation between either serum testosterone levels or serum gonadotrophins levels and blood urea, serum creatinine, serum sodium and potassium levels.

The etiology of this sexual dysfunction is multifactorial and hypotesteronaemia is one of the potential factors.

Hypotestosteronaemia is a common finding in uraemic patients.
